Ch Downfield Grethe

Contribution to later ROM Shelties

Ch Downfield Grethe may or may not play a major role in US Sheltie pedigrees. Her primary influence comes through her daughter, Jean of Anahassit who, bred back to her sire (Ch Wee Laird o'Downfield) produced Ch Mowgli ROM. However, I have seen frequent statements that Jean of Anahassitt was actually a Collie cross, though never with a clear statement as to which parent was a Collie. An additional problem comes in if Ch Kim o'Page's Hill was actually sired by a Collie, as he was officially by Ch Mowgli ROM and thus is responsible a fair fraction of Grethe's apparent contribution. The calculations here are based solely on the paper pedigrees, and may overrestimate Grethe's true contribution.
