Ch Sprig of Houghton Hill

Contribution to ROM Shelties

Ch Sprig of Houghton Hill was one of the dogs selected by Mrs. Dreer for importation to her Anahassitt Kennels. Although he was heavily linebred on the Chestnut collie cross, he was quite a small dog - in size for his day, but below13 inches tall. He comes into modern pedigrees primarily through a son, Artful Dodger of Anahassitt, who was purchased by Betty Whelen for Pocono Kennels. There he bacame the sire of Grey Mist of Pocono (the grandsire of Ch Larkspur of Pocono CDX ROM) and Astolat Lady Harlequin, both of whom were well represented in later pedigrees.

Although he plays a lesser role than a number of other imported males, he does make up around 1% of most modern pedigrees. In the table below the Percent column gives the fraction of the pedigree of each ROM contributed by Sprig, and the numbers column gives the number of times Sprig appears in a fully extended pedigree.
